2025 Musical Theatre Camp!

The Lightning Thief: A Percy Jackson Musical Poster

Percy never asked to be a half-blood, but now, with his newfound powers and a dangerous quest ahead, he has no choice but to step into the world of Greek gods and monsters to save the day. When 12-year-old Percy Jackson discovers he’s the half-blood son of one of the gods of Olympus, his world is turned upside down. Percy is thrust into an epic quest, racing to stop a war between the gods by recovering Zeus' missing lightning bolt. With the help of his friends—Annabeth, daughter of Athena, and Grover, his loyal Satyr protector—Percy faces a world full of dangerous monsters, ominous prophecies, and heart-pounding adventure. With an electrifying rock score by Rob Rokicki and tons of heart, this fun and fast-paced musical by Joe Tracz brings Rick Riordan’s beloved novel to life in the most thrilling way. This is an adventure for gods and mortals alike you won't want to miss!

Camp Rehearsals

At CastBound Studios, our rehearsal process is designed to be both fun and challenging, pushing our young performers to grow as artists while maintaining an exciting and collaborative environment. Over the course of the camp, we will take our cast through an immersive and dynamic rehearsal schedule, working on scene work, choreography, and vocal performance, all while refining transitions and movement sequences essential to the storytelling.

We will begin rehearsals by breaking down the show into its core components. This means exploring character development, analyzing scenes, and understanding the motivations behind each moment. Each rehearsal will have dedicated time for blocking, where actors learn their movement patterns, and vocal work, where we establish harmonies and develop confidence in solo and ensemble singing. Since The Lightning Thief is a fast-paced and movement-heavy show, we will start by building a strong foundation, ensuring that every performer understands their role in each scene.

As we move forward, we will begin incorporating transitions—ensuring smooth movement between scenes and songs. Given the fast-moving, high-energy nature of the show, our cast will work on fluidity, spatial awareness, and quick set changes to keep the momentum alive. Choreography rehearsals will be equally important, as many numbers require dynamic, action-packed movement. Our choreographer will break down sequences in a way that is engaging and accessible, encouraging performers to embody their characters through movement while maintaining vocal strength. Since this is an ensemble-driven musical, teamwork and synchronization will be key to making the big numbers feel powerful and immersive.

As the camp progresses, we will revisit scenes with a focus on depth, emotional connection, and comedic timing where appropriate. Actors will be encouraged to experiment with their characters, bringing creativity and personality into their roles. Additionally, the cast will have small-group vocal rehearsals to refine harmonies, work on difficult passages, and ensure clarity in storytelling through song. Our Assistant Vocal Director will provide extra support by working with smaller groups on harmonies and individual sections, while the Lead Vocal Director will focus on larger ensemble numbers and musical direction as a whole.

Once we have a strong grasp on movement, vocals, and transitions, we will start layering in select props and costume pieces. This will help our performers get a feel for the physical demands of the show and adapt their performances accordingly. Since The Lightning Thief includes moments of intense action and fight sequences, we will carefully rehearse these sections to ensure both safety and high-energy execution. This phase will also focus on the finer details of characterization, allowing our cast to fully immerse themselves in the world of the story.

In the final stretch of rehearsals, we will run full scenes and sequences with all elements combined, smoothing out any rough edges. This includes running the show in full sections, practicing quick changes, and refining cues. We want our performers to feel confident and prepared while still embracing the spontaneity and excitement of live theatre. Each run-through will give the cast an opportunity to build stamina, embrace the energy of the performance, and work together as a team to bring the magic of The Lightning Thief to life.

Through this rehearsal process, our goal is to challenge and uplift our young actors, ensuring that every camper feels empowered in their role while delivering a thrilling, high-energy production that captures the spirit of Percy Jackson’s world.
