Question 1

What happens if a performer misses a rehearsal or can’t attend every listed date?

CastBound’s Summer Program is built around creating a fully staged, professional production, and we ask performers to approach the process with a strong sense of commitment and professionalism.

Attendance during the Intensive, Tech Week and all performances is non-negotiable. These dates are essential to the success of the production, and performers are expected to be present. During the intensive, a significant amount of material is covered each day, and it becomes extremely difficult to move the production forward if cast members are absent. For the process to work, the full ensemble must be present and engaged.

We understand that conflicts can arise. We are open to working with families when advance notice is given. During early Foundation Rehearsals, performers may not be called for the full day but are expected to remain available during their scheduled rehearsal window. Rehearsal schedules are shared ahead of time, so performers know when they are needed.

If a performer does miss a rehearsal, they are responsible for catching up on the material. We support this by:
 • Filming blocking and choreography and sharing it with the cast
 • Encouraging collaboration and peer support within the ensemble

CastBound does not use understudies or swings, so each performer’s presence matters. Our goal is to create a supportive environment while maintaining the standards required to bring a high-quality production to life.

Question 2

I’m not a performer, but I love theatre — can I still get involved?

While CastBound’s Summer Program does not currently offer a dedicated technical or backstage training track, we are very interested in expanding into this area in the future.

If you are passionate about the behind-the-scenes side of theatre, we encourage you to reach out. We are always happy to explore ways for people to get involved where possible.
This invitation extends to youth creatives, parents, and community members alike. Support opportunities may include ushering, helping with hair and makeup, marketing and promotional support, set or prop construction, and assisting with front-of-house or concessions. We also open to building relationships with any local businesses interested in partnering with CastBound.

CastBound Studios is built on community, and we are always grateful for collaborators who want to help bring these productions to life.

Question 3

Are there volunteer opportunities with CastBound?

Accepted Answer

Yes. CastBound welcomes volunteers at many levels of involvement. Whether you’d like to help usher on performance days or be involved earlier by supporting marketing, set or prop building, or other production needs, we’re happy to have you.
Volunteer interest can be shared through the Volunteer Form on our homepage or by emailing us directly at castboundstudios@gmail.com. Volunteers are welcome to be as involved as feels right for them.

Question 4

Is there anything not included in the program tuition?

Accepted Answer

Lunches are not included in the program tuition. Each performer is expected to bring their own lunch each day.

Our rehearsal space at Dunbarton–Fairport United Church is located near multiple food establishments. With guardian permission, performers may leave the rehearsal space to purchase lunch, provided they go in groups of at least two and sign out when leaving and back in upon return.

Tickets for the final performances are not included in tuition. Ticket sales help offset the significant costs of producing a fully staged musical in a professional theatre, allowing us to keep program tuition as accessible as possible.

Personal supplies such as water bottles, notebooks, and pencils are not included. Performers may also be asked to provide basic hair and makeup items, depending on the production.

Question 5

Will there be any excursions off the rehearsal venue property?

Accepted Answer

During the program, performers may leave the rehearsal venue during lunch only if a parent or guardian has signed a permission form allowing them to do so. Performers without permission, or those who choose not to leave, will remain on site for lunch. Performers who are permitted to leave the venue to purchase food nearby must go in groups of at least two and are required to sign out when leaving and sign back in upon return.

In addition, CastBound will take the group to David Farr Park for select outdoor activities, including Theatre Sports games and Splash Day. These outings are planned, supervised, and designed to support ensemble-building and creativity in a safe environment.

No other off-site excursions are planned beyond these activities and scheduled performances.

Question 6

Is there early drop-off or late pick-up available?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A CastBound team member will be on site 30 minutes before the start of camp and 30 minutes after camp ends each day for drop-off and pick-up.

Early drop-off or late pick-up beyond this window may be available depending on scheduling needs and staff availability, and additional fees may apply.

If we’ve never done a CastBound program before, how do we know it’s the right fit?

CastBound’s Summer Program is designed for young people who are curious, creative, and excited to grow, whether they’re trying theatre for the first time or are already serious about developing their skills.

This program is a great fit for performers who want to build confidence, explore storytelling, collaborate with others, and challenge themselves in a supportive but focused environment. Some participants are discovering theatre for the first time, while others are considering future training or careers in the arts — both belong here.

What makes CastBound unique is that we create fully staged, large-scale musical productions with a level of professionalism and care that is uncommon in youth theatre programs in the region. Performers are supported, encouraged to have fun, and also held to clear expectations so they can experience what it’s like to work as part of a professional-style production.

What kind of training will performers receive?

Performers at CastBound receive training that is challenging, intentional, and often comparable to post-secondary level work or beyond. We do not believe in underestimating young artists. With the right guidance, care, and expectations, young performers are capable of far more than they’re often given credit for.

Our training goes beyond basic movement or surface-level performance. Performers learn real, transferable theatrical skills, including character development, storytelling technique, ensemble work, and movement rooted in intention and clarity. We introduce a range of acting approaches and encourage performers to explore, experiment, and discover which tools work best for them. No two actors are the same, and we treat each performer as an individual with unique strengths and areas for growth.

As an example, during our 2025 production of The Lightning Thief, the entire cast trained in advanced stage combat, progressing from little to no experience on day one to safely and confidently performing a fully choreographed two-and-a-half-minute fight sequence onstage. This same mindset carries through all areas of training: we challenge performers, support them fully, and trust their ability to rise to the work.

CastBound also values curiosity and growth beyond a fixed curriculum. If performers express interest in specific skills or areas of theatre, we do our best to explore those interests — whether by adjusting focus within rehearsals, learning alongside the cast, or bringing in guest artists to lead workshops.

Our goal is not to create one type of performer, but to help each young artist build their own actor’s toolkit with confidence, flexibility, and care.
